The new is basically about whether voters choose is based on the proposals that the candidate brings on subjects such as education, health care, taxes and economy; Or base their vote in terms of empathy, trust or the human side the candidate transmit them. Throughout the story the statistics presented as to who was the favorite candidate for the elections where Obama and Romney competed, polls showed that voters perceived Romney as not-so-favorite ,who cared much more for the economic wealth rather tan issues such as poverty , middle class or common people. On the other hand Obama was perceived as more sympathetic to the problems discussed above. The news comes in the assumption to adjust the favoritism and eliminate it as a disadvantage, and indeed there wouldn’t be that big change, but if favoritsm and emphaty were adjusted there would have been only 2 points difference. To substantiate this info i took a quote from another news related to this; “In reality, Republicans win all the time without closing the empathy gap. This is because Democratic candidates are generally perceived as more empathetic — more likely to “care about people like me” — than Republican candidates, regardless of who wins. Ronald Reagan in 1984, George H. W. Bush in 1988 and George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004 were all perceived as less empathetic than their Democratic opponents.” The perception people have of a candidate is viewed more as a consequence and not a cause why voters abstain from voting for the candidate . And usually if you ask a member of the Republican Party if he feels empathy to the candidate will tell you that yes , same happens to the Democratic Party members The report concludes that the main problem with Romney wasnt how voters perceived him, but the legacy brought along the Republican Party. Public opinion is not based on particular policies that distinguish the Republican Party. In this case the system was determined by political beliefs foreign to the interests of the American people. Conclusion: I consider that the information regarding candidates and their proposals, influences our choice It is true that the core vote of the members of the respective parties continue to play an important role, but this trend in turn has been declining and now we begin to worry more about the proposals that candidates have to solve the problems of society. Candidates need to be constantly renewed in order not to lose the core vote and maintaining a strong political platform for the upcoming elections.
