Republicans Again Reject Obama Pick for
Judiciary

I choose this news
because I think it is important to know some basic process about electing
judges for the White House. Since the Republicans have vote against every
nominee the Democrats have present. The last nominee is Cornelia T. L. Pillard, a
Georgetown law profesor. She lost by a vote of 56 to 41. Ms. Pillard’s liberal
record on issues like abortion has troubled many conservatives, they are really
concerned about her position and don’t want someone pro-abortion in the Supreme
Court. Some of the Senate Republicans are agree that they vote against her
because her point of view in social issues may be extreme, but they try to
disguised this by a law matter because they think that the District of Columbia
Circuit has lower power than other federal appeal court. Therefore many
Democrats have accused the Republicans of blocking a really prepared woman,
being this the 3rd one that Republicans are not agree with; this fight may
escalate and possibly result in a change to the Senate rules like limit the
minority party’s ability to filibuster judicial nominees. The Democrats want a
change and they are threatening if they lost the majority again will come back
to haunt them. Since the Republicans have disagree with all the last nominees,
the Democrats have turn this issue in a matter of gender given that all are
women. This fight have turn upside down the Senate creating a crisis on the
power of the court. The Democrats have present a new candidate, Robert L.
Wilkins, a Federal District Court judge for the District of Columbia, has
already cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee and is awaiting a floor vote.
However the Republicans have not show any interest in voting in favor of this
judge, the Democrats mention that the Republicans were holding the president’s
nominees to such a blatant double standard.
I AGREE in the position
that the Democrats are taking towards the Republicans since they already have present
4 alternatives to them and the Republicans have say nothing but bad comments
against them. The Democrats assure that the judges they present are really
prepared but the other part says that the Columbia District Circuit does not
have a strong power and the judges might been overrated. The U.S Congress is the
world’s longest running and most powerful democratic legislature according to
the chapter 7 of the book Keeping the Republic. It is obvious that there have always
existed a clash between these 2 parties, however they should look out for a
balance since they need to cooperate in a good way in behalf of the U.S. There
always may be a tension between representation and lawmaking but that’s why
they look for new alternatives despite the like or not the other party.
