Obama, Mitt Romney duel over 'apology.'

By Miguel Angel Mejia Reyes. On 12th September 2012, Politico in its article named "Obama, Romney duel over 'apology'" talks about the position of Romney regarding the announcement of the US Embassy of El Cairo. In which, Romney insists, the embassy offers an apology for an american video ridiculing Mahoma, which leaded a number of protesters to attack the US embassy in Libya and to murder the ambassador and another four members of the embassy.

For Romney, this action seems to be giving an apology to the protesters, and blames Obama for the words spread by the embassy; insisting that Obama is responsible of what his administration and embassies say and, that his too soft reaction damages the image of the US, reflecting weakness. The Obama’s administration did not payed attention of Romney’s accusations and focused only in offering its condolences to the families of the victims, assuring that his government will make justice.

In consequence, there are a variety reactions, there are the ones that support the Romney’s point of view arguing that the Obama’s administrations is too soft, and because of this, the aggressions could continue. For them, the fact that this event occurred 11 years after the terrorist attack of 07/11, is a very serious situation, there is fear and anger. In the other hand, there are the ones who accuse Romney to politicize the unfortunate event, they blame Romney of being impulsive, attribution that can not have an american president. For sure this is an interesting topic, just a few months before the US presidential election, an event of this magnitude occur. The real question would be: would this matter for the November’s elections? I would say that it really matters. This is the kind of thing US citizens need to take in count to know the kind of president they would like to choose.

Obama has shown a little more of knowledge and discretion in the decisions that he has done, while the declarations of Romney have shown that he does not have idea of what diplomacy is, first with Russia, pointing it as the enemy when what is needed is cooperation, Syria and now with this case in Libya, condemning almost the entire country. In resume, it would be like a kind of encounter of, continue with the Obama’s politics of cooperation in the american way, or going with the arrogant believe of Romney that the United States have the duty to lead the world, at this we have to add that Romney made the declaration of the embassy in El Cairo despite the message of apology was given before the beginning of the protests, which shows how a possible US president can determine his actions without being completely sure of the nature of the events. Of course for somebody abroad, Romney could be just another crazy person trying to arrive to the presidency of the most powerful country in the world, but maybe for americans it could be a candidate to consider.
