G.O.P. Strains to Define How to Close Gap With Voters

The article I read was published yesterday November 11 in The New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/12/us/politics/first-republicans-must-find-common-ground-among-themselves.html?pagewanted=1&ref=us and it talks about the future of Republicans and the Republican Party itself. This idea of making a change within the Republican party after their lost in the past Tuesday elections and also because of the specific results of the election. In big numbers, they lost in the election for President and the Senate. The House although is still under Republican Control, things seem to get worse for them. They cannot depend only on white voters, they are trying to reduce the gap with other voters such as Latinos, African-Americans, Asians, Women, etc. If they do not make an effort to change the tone of their message and their policies towards this voters, the scenario for further elections can turn really bad.

I agree with the idea of the article. The U.S. election is showing us many cases of study, specially the division of the country. It seems that the country has turned into the whites and other groups. Swing states are been taken by Democrats, but the problem for Republicans does not ends there, some states under control of Republicans can turn swing states. There is a big concern towards states such as Texas. Births to nonwhites outnumbered births to whites for the first time in 2011. If the rate continues, this idea of Texas becoming a swing state does not sounds crazy.

In this revision of the Republican Party, can be seen a bigger hope for Latinos, illegal immigrants, and other minorities. A bill to help them get a legal status can appear really soon in the Congress. Also, republicans need to concede many things, in some cases they will try to empower some minorities in order to recover or gain their future votes.

It is indeed one of the Republican Party biggest struggle in the last decades. Some people may say that political parties are "endangered" in the U.S. This last elections can show that many people vote towards the candidate and not the party. Republicans will need to make big negotiations with Democrats, yes, but also within their own members. They will analyze the costs and benefits to work side to side with democrats in the next four years if they want to recover the power lost in this last election.

It will also be a hard task for democrats. Accepting or agreeing everything from republicans can be dangerous for their continuity. For immediate negotiations, they will work together, but tomorrow in future elections, everyone will try to seek their own benefit.

So similar to a situation in Mexico, where a big change in political parties is supposed to happen in the next months, the U.S. will also see changes in their politics, it seems that the perfect political system has reached a point where they will put to test history and their politics. I only hope for changes in benefit of the people and not for only a few.
