When You Look at the World

It’s been a long time talking about immigration. It’s almost insane what we could see nowadays, but no, it seems that our reality reflects people who are being deported just for their skin color. Even though, the SB1070 has created conscience in many persons.

In the last three months almost ten thousand of Hispanics have registered by mail in order to vote in the next elections and try to change their current situation. Abigail Duarte, speaker from My Family Votes in Arizona said that now the Hispanics are looking to have more information about the candidates in the future elections and their proposals.

The Arizona law has divided the United States. We can see that this has happened in history with the slavery and the civil rights of the Afro-American community. A prove of this great division is the group of the Senate who are evaluating about to ending the birthright citizenship. That would be a very serious issue, because they would be changing a constitutional right.

The real question here is: would that be the answer for ending illegal immigration? Personally, I don’t think so. The other side of the Senate talks about an Immigration Reform, to help people to achieve their citizenship, not to taking it away from them. Until they have a serious debate, the cards will just stay in the table.

About this, the former President of Mexico, Vicente Fox Quesada, said that an immigration reform is very important and necessary, in order to increase the cooperation between the two nations. He also criticizes the actions of Senator John McCain who supports similar legislation to the SB1070. It seems that the Republican Party is trying to recover his power in the U.S. J.D. Hayworth, electoral rival of McCain, said that he is looking forward to legalize illegal immigrants. This just divided even more the country. The pro immigrant’s side and the anti illegal’s side.

This can´t be left just as a U.S. topic, Mexico should get deeply involved in the problem, and even if it does not make a huge impact, at least we can said that it´s trying to do something. Mexico City sent some legal advisors from the Secretary of Rural Development and Equity to the Indigenous Communities (SEDEREC) to Mexican immigrants in Arizona who need legal support.

America, since its Independence, is a symbol of freedom and equality. It’s a shame that the people who live in this country, built of many cultures, doesn’t face the fact that they need immigrants. Now at days every nation and country should evaluate the need and importance of the immigrants, not only for the humanitarian issue, most of all, because of the new era of the globalization, and the opening to new cultures can´t be a barrier to progress.
